Paper Birch : Animals

The paper birch is not only valuable to humans, but to animals as well. The birch provides homes, food, shelter, and tools for a wide variety of animals and birds. Popular visitors that come to make a meal of the seeds and buds of the tree include the ruffed goose, chickadees, redpolls, pine siskins, and fox sparrows. What about the twigs and bark? White tailed deer, moose, snowshoe hares, rabbits, and porcupines eat those! Yellow bellied sap suckers and red squirrels relish in the sap of the paper birch, so all parts of the tree help sustain the visiting wild life!
