History 11 is an introductory survey of United States history from the time of first European contact through the Civil War. We will explore such topics as the evolution of a slave-based economy, the roots of revolution, and the beginnings of the industrial revolution. This course is designed to introduce students to the skills used by historians; there will be several writing assignments in addition to exams.

History 12 is a first year-sophomore level, introductory survey of U.S. history since the Civil War. This course emphasizes the development of a series of basic historical skills and provides a chronological and topical analysis of the past. Course requirements include assigned readings and examinations.
